Fearless is having faith that someday things might change. It's fearless to fall in love with your best friend - even though he's in love with someone else. It's fearless to fall madly in love again even though you've been hurt before. Fearless is allowing yourself to cry on the bathroom floor. It's fearless to say goodbye to someone that only hurts you - even if you can't breathe without them. Fearless is getting back up and fighting for what you want over and over again, even though every time you've tried, you've lost. It's fearless to stop believing someone that apologizes for the things they'll never stop doing. And it's definitely fearless to walk into your freshman year of high school at fifteen and not know anyone at all. The summer has returned once again and the Laguna Beach sun shines brighter than ever; the pacific ocean is still flawless; and it's pretty faces are still fearless. They say it's fearless living in spite of those things that scare you to death, and one of the scariest things is to leave everything and everyone you know behind. And it's no secret that the Laguna Beach high school class of two-thousand nine are fearlessly doing just that.
A clique full of self-proclaimed princesses that once ruled the school have taken off their crowns forever. Freshmen are unknowingly about to enter a life style of secrets, gossip, and lies; while the seniors are walking away with so much more. When your high school years come to an end, you're supposed to walk away with memories that take you back to that one time in your life where everything was okay - not ones that turn your blood cold. The 'oh eight - 'oh nine school year ended with everything being changed. Chances were taken; people once loved quickly became the past; lives were ruined; dreams were shattered and final goodbyes were said. This is what you encounter when a devastating school shooting ends your school year, killing the ones who you thought you'd love and grow on with. During the graduation ceremony, a gunman opened fire. All together there was a total of nine fatalities - all of them were seniors that were about to start their journeys in life. While some believe that this was none other than an act of random violence, others believe it was fueled by lies and secrets hidden within the beach side town.
Can you imagine what it's like to go from planning graduation parties to funerals? That's what nine families had to endure. Weeks have passed since that tragic day and the memory is still fresh in the minds of many. While some are trying to let go of their yesterdays and fearlessly follow their dreams, others want to live in the past and never face what reality brought. Some are trying to make this summer one to remember with new friendships, parties, and new found faith, while some of the prettiest faces want to stay locked away from the rest of the world - never to face what they really lost. People are going to sit back and wonder where those nine lost lives would end up in ten years. It's going to hurt when you realize it's really gone, but when you live in the shadow of Laguna, you can't hide away! Summer is supposed to be a time to relax and forget everything for those few short months before life begins again. Will things ever go back to how they used to be - the right way - or will things just remain broken? Only time will tell, but they say it's fearless to let go of everything you once knew. Then again, starting over and being okay - that's Fearless, too!
